What can be expected from a collection titled, Poems from the Mind of a Madman: Passionate Works of Poetry for Modern Times? This title is a warning and an offer. Don J Metivier's work consists of poems solely for the reader's entertainment. At the same time, he offers thought-provoking compositions that urges the readers to confront their deepest emotions. In poems like "Political War," Metivier ponders on the effects of war, honors the many lives lost and shares his own experience in service. This is followed by a poem called "All Seasons Fall," which paints a vivid picture of a night in October, just at the cusp of winter's first snow. In this poem, he captures an evening and shows how poetry can be a time capsule for the moments we cherish the most. After a few pages is a poem called "The Flower That Could Be," where Metivier reflects on his personal growth and how his environment and circumstances have affected that. The themes of his poems are vast and varied. It can take a closer look at the small details of life that we take for granted, or it can look at a world beyond oneself. There is something for every reader in this collection. Read it at once and ride a roller coaster of emotions with the author. Or, read each poem individually and revisit the ones that resonate with you the most. These poems are not divided into categories.
